Rules/Regulations

SAFE services are safety services. It is the responsibility of individuals to respectfully and appropriately use the services.

SAFEwalk Rules

  • SAFEwalks can be requested by calling 262-5000 (voice mail is available).
  • A SAFEwalk can be reserved ahead of time for pick-up at a specific time and place.
  • Regular scheduled SAFEwalks from late-night classes are encouraged.
  • A SAFEwalk can also be requested whenever you see a SAFEwalk team.

SAFEride Cab Rules

  • Riders must present a valid UW ID to the cab driver before the cab ride can begin.
  • Rides will not be provided to bars.
  • All trips are limited to a two-mile radius of campus.
  • All trips are strictly one-way rides - no intermittent stops or return trips.
  • A four ride per month limit is strictly enforced.
  • No more than two individuals are allowed per SAFEride Cab ride.  If you are in a group of three or more, you are encouraged to pool your money and pay for the cab.
  • Individuals requesting a ride before 1:00 a.m. may be referred to SAFEwalk or SAFEride Bus.
  • SAFEride dispatchers and SAFEride Cab drivers reserve the right to terminate a call or a cab ride if an individual is verbally abusive, has an invalid ID or has exceeded four rides for the month.
  • SAFEride Cab drivers reserve the right to report inappropriate destinations and may terminate a ride if it is providing transportation to a bar or party.
Disciplinary Policy

Abuse, inappropriate use, or misconduct may result in suspension of privileges. Misconduct includes:

  • Verbal and/or physical harassment.
  • Giving an invalid university ID number or using someone else's ID number.
  • Exceeding four (4) SAFEride cab rides in a month.

Conduct which causes a danger to others may result in further university disciplinary action, possible arrest and/or criminal or civil prosecution.

All concerns and complaints should be reported to the SAFE coordinator (262-9798).

Evening Parking on Campus

Check the Lot Times and After Hour Parking Policy at
http://www.fpm.wisc.edu/trans/policy.asp

Park in well-lighted locations and do not walk alone after dark.  Plan where you will park and walk in advance.

Nighttime Transportation for People With Disabilities

All students, faculty, staff and guests with disabilities may use the nighttime transportation services.  SAFEride Buses (Routes 80, 81 and 82) are lift equipped.

Routine nighttime paratransit rides (to and from evening classes, trips to the library, etc.) should be arranged through Metro Transit for eligible riders. Application forms for this service are available at campus residence halls, the Campus Information and Visitor Center, the McBurney Disability Resource Center or by calling Metro Transit at (608) 266-4466 or 267-1143 (TTY).
