Eligibility
All employees paid through UW Payroll, excluding graduate assistants and student hourly positions, are eligible for a bus pass from Transportation Services. This includes faculty, academic staff, classified employees, post docs, and LTEs. Emeriti faculty and staff and UW Hospital employees may also receive the bus pass at any Transportation Services office and at regular pass distributions in August and September.
Employees and members of authorized affiliates who have contracted for service may apply to their affiliate organizations to receive bus passes directly from them. Affiliate members will not be provided bus passes at Transportation Services customer service offices or at regular bus distribution events. Affiliates include: WARF, State Historical Society, UW Alumni Association, and the UW Foundation.
Where to Pick Up UW Employee Bus Passes
For UW Student Bus Pass information, click here.
Bus passes may be redeemed at any Transportation Services Office during normal business hours. You must show your faculty/staff or Hospital ID and may only pick up your own pass.
Bus Pass Usage
To use the UW employee bus pass, you must have both the bus pass and your UW ID or UW Hospital ID with you when you board the bus.
The UW/UW Hospital bus pass must be swiped when boarding the bus. Information about swiping your card is available at Metro's website.
The bus pass is for your use only. Only the person assigned the bus pass may use it. Your pass is subject to confiscation if misused.
If your pass is lost or stolen, you may purchase a replacement for $20.
UW ID Requirement for UW Employees
To pick up your pass and to use your pass, you will need to have a valid UW ID Card. If you do not have a UW ID you can get one at the Wiscard Office.
Students, faculty, and staff who need a new or replacement ID card must present some form of personal photo identification such as a driver's license, passport, or state ID. In addition, the Wiscard Office can make a Faculty/Staff ID card ONLY after the employee's department has entered the appointment information and the proper authorization has been established in the database. Generally it takes one evening for this information to get updated in the Wiscard Search program. For more information on obtaining a Wiscard, please call 262-3258.
Paratransit service is included as a free service for all eligible UW employees. However, you must be certified under the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to qualify. To apply for certification, please contact Madison Metro at 266-4466 or check out their website at www.mymetrobus.com to download the application.
