Microphone Troubleshooting

List of wireless frequencies used on campus

Problem Solution
No sound from wireless microphone Make sure microphone is on
Check battery level, replace if necessary
Make sure the system is turned on, and appropriate audio levels are turned up
Check that audio "Mute" on the control system is not selected
Make sure microphone cord is securely plugged into belt pack
Check that the Mute switch on the microphone is set to "ON" and not "MUTE"
Poor sound from wireless microphone Place microphone 4-6" from your mouth in the center of your chest.
Make sure microphone is facing your mouth
Check battery level, replace if necessary
Talk towards the microphone- turning your head away from the microphone will cause poor audio quality
Make sure nothing is hitting the microphone- clothes, jewelry, etc.
Microphone causes feedback

Turn down microphone volume (Generally, you do not need to turn the volume up as high as you think. Ask the students to tell you when it is OK.)
Try to stay behind the speakers, (or on the stage area) if possible
Do not go to the spot where feedback occurred
Microphone "cuts in and out" Make sure belt pack antenna (short cable that dangles off of bottom of belt pack) is hanging straight down and not wrapped around the belt pack.
Move the belt pack transmitter to your back.
Check battery level, replace if necessary
Note spot where mic cuts out, do not stand there
Microphone produces static or other unwanted noise You may be using a frequency that a different mic is using. Consult the Wireless Microphone Frequency chart for more information
