Advanced Biosafety Training

Class scheduled by appointment

This class builds on basic biosafety concepts and focuses on Biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) precautions and containment in lab and animal research. Topics include risk assessment, proper use of containment equipment and personal protective equipment, and disinfection procedures for various types of Risk Group 2 pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, prions). A major goal of the class is to provide safety information on commonly used viral vectors since viral vectors are becoming a widespread research tool. The mandatory Building Biosafety Into Your Research modules should be taken through Learn@UW prior to the Advanced Biosafety class.
