Welcome to the University of Wisconsin Bloodborne Pathogens Reference and Training Manual sponsored by the Safety Department's Occupational Health Program.
The following pages are designed as means to educate and train the UW-Madison community. For this training tool to be effective, we ask for your first time through that you follow the page sequence as instructed. After your initial visit, we hope you will return often to refresh your safety skills and to peruse these pages as you like.
Please be sure to review all pages in the Training area before proceeding to the Test area.
And remember, the materials contained in these pages are meant to protect you. Whether you work directly with infected materials or work in an environment in which you are only occasionally near needles or bodily fluids, the Bloodborne Pathogen Reference and Training Manual can help you lead a safer life.
This manual contains the information to help you comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030) and the State of Wisconsin Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations (ILHR 32) requirements under the Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Rule. More importantly, it will help you to make your laboratory or workplace safer.
